Our thoughts and prayers go out to Atlético Madrid striker, Fernando Torres, who suffered a horrifying head injury late in his team’s 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga action on Thursday.
Torres suffered the injury going for a header in the 84th minute. Players from both sides immediately called for medical attention and looked on in distress as he was treated. Atlético manager, Diego Simeone, said after the match that he could hear the impact of the clash.
“I felt a noise from the bench, I do not know if it was the neck, but something felt, these are unfortunate situations that happen in the game.” – Diego Simeone
The Spaniard is said to be ‘conscious and stable’ in hospital according to Atlético brass, and scans showed ‘no traumatic alterations or injuries.’
Torres himself tweeted from hospital, assuring fans he would be okay.
“Thank you all for worrying about me and your messages of support. It was only a little scare. I hope to be back soon.” – Fernando Torres
