Chelsea (1-1-3) v Arsenal (3-1-1)

Date: September 19, 2015

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Kick off: 12:45 PM

March 22, 2014 12:45 PM. Chelsea fans celebrate the date and Arsenal fans dread it. It was Arsene Wenger’s 1000th game in charge of Arsenal and it was to be a momentous occasion. As it turns out, that game will live on in Wenger’s memory but for all the wrong reasons. Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge for a lunch time kick off for the first time since that famous result for Mourinho’s team and will hope to put in a much better display. Truthfully, that should not be much of a challenge.

Form

Both teams have enjoyed contrasting form to begin the Premier League season. Arsenal have played good football with their passing and possession based style with the only criticism being their finishing which has been erratic to say the least. Their joint top scorer for the season along with Olivier Giroud has been Owen Góal, who’s banged in two goals so far this season. If ever there were a match for Arsenal to find their shooting boots, this would be it. Despite their issues in front of goal however, Arsenal find themselves in 4th position, behind Manchester United on goal difference alone.

Chelsea on the other hand seem to have stumbled out of the blocks thus far. Four points in their first five games of the season have the West London team languishing in 17th place. Indifferent form to key players have seen last season’s champions look distinctly average so far but that will have to change soon if Mourinho plans to mount yet another title challenge this season.

Key Players

While Eden Hazard and Alexis Sánchez are the obvious danger men for either team, neither have hit the ground running this season. They will both hope to spark some life into their respective seasons on Saturday afternoon. Beyond them however, the men tasked with defending the mercurial wingers, Héctor Bellerin and Branislav Ivanović, will both have to be switched on from the first whistle to combat the myriad threats Alexis and Hazard will bring to the fore.
