Ahead of the release of our updated attacker ratings index, here are the notables who weren’t able to crack the top 25 in what is a loaded category. To be able to feature highly on our lists requires more than being good in one category and lacking in other areas as we take the totality of what a footballer in that position is really there to do. Also look out for rankings on various categories that play some part in our final rankings.

We present the notable misses from our upcoming top 25!

Ivan Perišić

Ivan Perisic of Inter Milan

Index Rating: 43.05

Rank: 63

The reported Man United target isn’t exactly lighting up our depth charts.

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco

Yannick Carrasco

Index Rating: 43.29

Rank: 62

He’s still young and his time will come, just not now and maybe not in this Atletico Madrid system.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney

Index Rating: 43.80

Rating: 59

His decline may have come a few years quicker than we wanted, but he did his time and served the game well. It’s just a pity we didn’t see more of the engine that was Wayne Rooney in his prime.

Memphis Depay

Depay Man United Lyon

Index Rating: 45.20

Rank: 55

Depay has a long way to go before he can restore his reputation and some of the hype that surrounded his big move to Manchester United. Lyon aren’t quite the doldrums yet, but his position on the ARI certainly is at the moment.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku of Everton FC

Index Rating: 45.69

Rank: 54

We’re still waiting on one man in this photo to start living up to the hype. The other has his back turned with a cool, slightly faded edit.
