Last Season at a Glance
Known as the Iceman for his steely demeanour, he was signed by Benfica at the age of 18 and spent the majority of his career playing for Benfica B until finally being able to break through to the first team in 2016.
He’s rated as having a good ability to read the game and cut out passes, and is a fantastic ball playing defender. Lindelöf has also been used as right back on occasions, showing some versatility. While he may not be the big name some United fans would have anticipated, he’s the right type of partner for tough tackling Eric Bailly, a defender who is likely to do the dirty work ala Nemanja Vidić.
He played 3,600 minutes for Benfica in all competitions, and 32 league games, the second most in the squad all season. This bodes well for him being a likely mainstay for United, assuming he can handle the rigours of Premier League football, especially if he shows the qualities which saw him establish himself in the Benfica squad having only played for the reserves before January 2016.
