The King of Rome has left his throne. There was a bright sun hovering above the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, but tears rained down tens of thousands of cheeks as Francesco Totti bid adieu to the beautiful game.
Roma’s 3-2 win over Genoa on the day to clinch a spot in next season’s Champions League group stage mattered little as football fans said goodbye to one of the few one-club men left in the modern game. Totti, a man who rarely showed vulnerability during his career, couldn’t hold back the waterworks as he took a lap of honour after Sunday’s match.

Sorry Maximus, but you have nothing on Il Gladiatore, who giving 25 years of blood, sweat and tears to fight for the honour of his home town club and his country. The game will miss you legend.
