Team of the Season

Thibaut Courtois: The difference a happy and settled Courtois makes is very noticeable.

Nathaniel Clyne: Quietly went about turning in consistently good performances. Edges Walker due to his falling out with Pochettino.

David Luiz: Those who weren’t paying attention to his performances in France laughed when he returned to the Bridge. Who’s laughing now?

Jan Vertonghen: Criminally underrated.

Danny Rose: Another fullback who quietly went about turning in consistently good performances.

N’Golo Kanté: Mostly because it’s an obligation at this point.

David Silva: How Silva has never made the PFA Team of the Year I’ll never know. Superb maestro.

Kevin de Bruyne: His early whipped in balls across the box are a joy to behold.

Christian Eriksen: “will the real Christian Eriksen please stand up?” Morten Olsen once asked. He’s standing now, he’s standing now.

Eden Hazard: Screw the awards and all who decided them. EDEN HAZARD IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.

Harry Kane: Back to back top scorer titles? What more could we ask of him….Perform outside the EPL you say? Next year.

Disappointments of the Season

Loris Karius: Unlike City with Bravo, Karius came in to fix a Goalkeeper problem. That problem won back his spot and has rooted Karius to the bench.

Héctor Bellerín: The haircuts were worse than the performances to be honest.

Vincent Kompany: Rarely fit and even when fit he looked a shadow of his former self.

Shkodran Mustafi: It started quite well didn’t it? Then it went a bit tits up.

Luke Shaw: Let’s call a spade a spade. It’s just not going to happen for him at Manchester United.

Francis Coquelin: Francis once inspired all to never give up on their dreams no matter how far-fetched they are. He now reminds us to stay in your lane!

Moussa Sissoko: Shouldn’t be a disappointment because as Newcastle fans pointed out, you’d have struggled to find five games he played well in his last 18 months at the club but £30M, bloody hell.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: From Bundesliga Player of the year to “oh yeah, I forgot they signed him too.”

Sofiane Boufal: One of the joys of the EPL is seeing who Southampton sign to replace the stars they sell. How many of us remember Boufal came in as their record signing?

Dimitri Payet: Hahahahaha a lot of you were really gassed over this guy! Pissed off back to France after being exposed.

Anthony Martial: So much talent but for whatever reason he hasn’t displayed it enough this season. His goal tally alone has been cut in half.

Team of the Season

Thibaut Courtois – Fine return to form. Shades David de Gea.

Kyle Walker – Toss up with Nathaniel Clyne but his attacking impetus was too much to ignore.

Toby Alderweireld – Best defender in England full stop.

David Luiz – Silenced quite a few doubters. Carrot top jokes don’t apply anymore.

Marcos Alonso – Danny Rose and Cesar Azpilicueta were slightly better defensively, but his attacking contributions were timely in a back three.

N’Golo Kanté – Well, this is obvious.

Kevin de Bruyne – Want assists? Call Mr. Keep it Simple.

Dele Alli – Coming into his own as the Spurs’ Frank Lampard.

Eden Hazard – The man Chelsea have summoned for a spark every year has delivered again. Last year didn’t happen.

Alexis Sánchez – Beat back strong challenges from Romelu Lukaku, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and Christian Eriksen.

Harry Kane – The new slight will probably be that he can only do it at Spurs seeing as the one-season wonder nonsense was just that.

Disappointments of the Season

Claudio Bravo – There could be only one. Bordered on embarrassing at times.

Matteo Darmian – When you get shifted to LB after being bad at RB, then are bad at LB then we have a problem.

John StonesNo diamonds, only Stones.

Chris Smalling – Fooled many that he was finally becoming a top defender.

Luke Shaw – Hasn’t even justified half of his fee yet. When you fall behind two makeshift LBs who weren’t good enough to play in their natural positions…you get it.

Francis Coquelin – Santi, where are you??!!!

Aaron Ramsey – One season wonder. Wonder when he’ll fulfill his promise?

Ross Barkley – Something has got to give. Regressed yet again.

Adnan Januzaj – Careful, for he may fall off the face of the earth. Can’t see Jose Mourinho even bothering next season.

Riyad Mahrez – Should have left Leicester City last season. Hard to replicate that form in a team that tries hard not to play football.

Jamie Vardy – “Chat shit, get banged”. Probably inevitable fall from grace but it’s a pretty long fall. Too far to ignore.
