With just about two weeks until the summer transfer window shuts, Manchester City are moving swiftly to secure their targets as they look to wrestle the title away from champions Chelsea. The blue half of Manchester already looks a genuine Premier League title contender after just two games with two very convincing victories home and away. However the Blue Moon may yet again take centre stage next May should the Citizens manage to close the deal for Belgian superstar Kevin De Bruyne from Wolfsburg.

With a staggering 16 goals and 27 assists in all competitions last season at the Volkswagen Arena, the baby-faced 24-year-old forward was voted the Bundesliga Player of the Year for last season. He was instrumental in Wolfsburg finishing as runners-up to Bayern Munich thus finding themselves back in Europe’s premier competition, the Champions League. The 5ft 11in Belgian international was absolutely sensational for Wolfsburg as he got his career back on track after being frozen out in the cold under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

Manchester City has been on the trail of this naturally gifted player all summer and are keen on getting a deal done for one of the best players in Europe at the moment. His presence in the squad would add more pace, creativity and goals in attack. De Bruyne has the quality and ability to produce moments of genius at any time but is equally adept in working hard for the team and doing a job defensively.

He has all the artillery in his arsenal to become a world class player and could become one of the best in the world. He is ideal for the Manuel Pellegrini style which is being tidy in possession, playing in tight spaces in and around the penalty area and of course is excellent in wide areas. He is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and has enough pace and trickery to get past defenders. His end product is of the highest order and with a striker like Kun Aguero, the Belgian could yet see his assists record sore even higher this season.

Having already captured the likes of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Nicolas Otamendi this summer, City has great strength in depth across the pitch. Sterling and Delph are two of the shining lights for England in the Premier League while Otamendi was perhaps the best defender in Spain last season. Should Pellegrini add the best player from Germany to his squad, it places City as the front-runners to lift the title and high hopes of going as deep as possible in the Champions League.

Already this season, skipper Vincent Kompany looks like a man reborn and on a mission to get things right this time around. Yaya Toure seems to have placed his birthday saga behind him and he also looks a lot fitter and happier on the pitch. Sterling appears to have settled in quite well in his new surrounding and his new teammates has shown great faith in him up until this point. If Otamendi replicates his La Liga form this season the competition for places will be fierce and of course makes the Noisy Neighbours arguably the best squad in the league.

City and Pellegrini may now view De Bruyne as the final piece of the puzzle as they plan their onslaught on the league and in Europe this season. Wolfsburg are playing hardball over their star man but if the rumours are anything to go by then it seems that the 24-year-old is eager to make a move back to the Premier League. Manager Dieter Hecking has admitted that his star performer is distracted by all the talk and with money to spend City could very well seal the deal very soon.
